Government vs. the People
Halli
Thanks once again to the Patriot Post and the Founder’s Quote Daily for a gem that reminds us of the intentions of the crafters of our form of government.
“The ultimate arbiter is the people of the Union.”
– Thomas Jefferson (letter to William Johnson, 1823)

This in spite of the fact that our federal government is a constitutional republic. This in spite of the establishment of the Supreme Court. And in spite of the power vested in both Congress and the office of President.
We would do well to read our founding documents, including the Declaration of Independence. Remember that little phrase:
Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…
And if that is true, and I firmly believe it is, it follows that “the governed” must also give their consent to over-reaching government powers and ultimately tyranny.
Citizens of the United States have given far, far too much permission to government on every level to over-reach, over-regulate and over-tax.
We are on the road to tyranny, and very near the ultimate destination.
It is high time for the governed to assert their power and take back control over the government.
