Jesse Higgins: Where Has My Country Gone? Part 3

August 17th, 2009 by Halli

Apathy, from Merriam-Webster 1. Lack of feeling or emotion. 2. Lack of interest or concern.

I used to tell people that didn’t vote they did not have any complaint. I have since changed that to people that do not have a clue of the issues do more harm to their country than if they did not vote at all. Thomas Jefferson said; “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” He also wrote “ Let our countrymen know that the people alone can protect us against these evils [of misgovernment].”

“A study was done of the worlds great civilizations. It looked at various nations that have come into prominence and then disappeared into obscurity. It noted that every nation has an average cycle of 200 years, and each one of the nations went through the following sequence: from spiritual faith to great courage, from great courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, and from dependency back to bondage.”

Each of us must ask the question of ourselves; “Where are we as a people and where am I?” Since Aberdeen has over 50% of the people living at or below the poverty level, and Idaho has almost 50% of its citizens depending on government in one form or another, I think we have arrived at the dependency level. Since our government, past and present administrations, has saddled the next several generations with unsustainable debt they will be living in bondage! Some may ask “what can I do?” The first thing you must do, if you care about the future of your country, is get out of your comfort zone. Freedom is not free. You must work for it. Forget political parties, they only want power, they will tell you what you want to hear and down the road they will tell others what they want to hear.

Ask your self why on everything. Ask why G.W. Bush wanted the patriot act and why B. Obama has not called for it’s repeal (he promised in his campaign) it is called power. Ask why the UAW got 53% of Chrysler and 17.5% of GM? It could not have anything to do with the $23.7 Million the UAW gave Democrats since 2000 could it.

Hillary Clinton said she followed the ideas of early 20th century “Progressivism”. You have a duty and a responsibility to your country and the next generation to understand what that means. I think both political parties have sold out to those ideals. I will give you a hint: both Mussolini and Hitler used some of those ideas in their respective forms of fascism. Those ideas were formulated right here in America. Both Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt were avid progressives. If you choose to get involved then by all means read the book “The Five Thousand Year Leap”. If you choose to keep your head in the sand and remain in ignorant bliss, I think Samuel Adams (not the beer, one of the founders) said it best; “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom — go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!”
