Trish: The Nobel Peace Prize

October 9th, 2009 by Halli

By Trish Oak

Dear Sirs:

The value of the Nobel Peace Prize has suffered over the years as increasingly extreme leftist committee members have dictated winners.

After Al Gore, renowned as the witless, self-promoting dolt of the era, won your prize in 2007, respect for the “honor” fell to near zero among the educated around the world. And this year’s award to Barack Obama puts the proverbial nail in the coffin of cachet your award may have had in the past. Everywhere, Americans are heard asking, “What?” “Why?” “What has he ever done?!” Even liberals among us are embarrassed by this overreaching presentation.

By a fantastic stretch of the imagination one may be able to invent a future scenario involving Obama in an act that positively affects international peace. However, unless groveling before leaders of terrorist-sponsoring nations qualifies as peace-seeking, there has certainly been no accomplishment to date that merits his consideration for this award. One person thinks this award is appropriate – Obama the narcissist. In his own eyes, no level of adulation is sufficient recognition of His Eminence.

If Nobel Prize winners in chemistry, literature, medicine and physics have been chosen with similar incompetence, Alfred Nobel’s entire reason for creating the award system has been discredited.

Congratulations on your successful self-elevation to the position of Laughing Stocks of the Global Community.

Sincerely,

Trish Oak
U.S.A.

David Ripley: Catholic Bishops Threaten to Oppose ObamaCare

October 9th, 2009 by Halli

Idaho Chooses Life

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) wrote members of Congress yesterday, pleading again for changes in the proposed health care “reform” legislation now ripe for action on both sides of Congress.

The bishops are especially concerned about two key elements of the legislation – the absence of conscience protections for medical professionals, and plans by Pelosi & Co. to grossly expand tax-financing of abortions. Leaders of the American Catholic church expressed “disappointment” that their previous appeals to ban tax-funding of abortions have been rebuffed.

“We sincerely hope that the legislation will not fall short of our criteria,” wrote the bishops. “However, we remain apprehensive when amendments protecting freedom of conscience and ensuring no taxpayer money for abortion are defeated in committee votes.”

Unless changes are made, the USCCB officials promised to vigorously oppose the legislation.Such outright opposition could make a substantial difference to the pending legislative fight – as well as carry great implications for the futures of politicians who enact ObamaCare over the wishes of the American people.

Richard Larsen: Global Warming Scare NOT About Climate

October 8th, 2009 by Halli

By Richard Larsen

I actually had misgivings about the Van Jones resignation as the administrations’ “Green Jobs Csar.” He was the most high-level “green” advocate who was actually honest about what the green movement was all about. As he said, “The green economy will start off as a small subset of a complete revolution away from gray capitalism and toward redistribution of all the wealth…And we are going to push it and push it and push it until it becomes the engine for transforming the whole society.” He was also the most honest of the administration appointees about being a self-avowed communist. I’m sorry we’ve lost his openness, for he made the case very clearly that capping carbon emissions, and taxing everyone who creates a “carbon footprint” was not about saving the earth, but about governmental control over our energy consumption and redistribution of wealth.

About the same time Jones was resigning, Richard Lindzen of MIT published a paper that proves the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) conclusions were wrong about carbon emissions. The IPCC conclusions were based on computer models, including the famed Michael Mann “hockey-stick” graph which has been discredited, whereas Lindzen relies on raw data and provides a breakthrough explanation for why global warming does not rise with carbon emissions.

Lindzen reports, “The global surface temperature record, which we update and publish every month, has shown no statistically-significant ‘global warming’ for almost 15 years. Statistically-significant global cooling has now persisted for very nearly eight years. Even a strong el Nino – expected in the coming months – will be unlikely to reverse the cooling trend.”

“More significantly, the ARGO bathythermographs deployed throughout the world’s oceans since 2003 show that the top 400 fathoms of the oceans, where it is agreed between all parties that at least 80% of all heat caused by manmade ‘global warming’ must accumulate, have been cooling over the past six years. That now prolonged ocean cooling is fatal to the ‘official’ theory that ‘global warming’ will happen on anything other than a minute scale.”

Lindzen’s peer reviewed work states “we now know that the effect of CO2 on temperature is small, we know why it is small, and we know that it is having very little effect on the climate.”

Data and graphical display of that data illustrate how carbon emissions have been steadily increasing over the past 15 years, while global mean temperatures have been declining. If carbon emissions were causal to warming global temperatures, there would be some concomitant harmony between the two charts. Namely, as carbon emissions increase, temperatures increase. Yet even when taken back over the past 100 years, there is no such correlation between the two. Critics argue that as complex as the climate is, there will always be a lag time between increase in CO2 and global mean temperatures. Yet even allowing for such a lag time, there is no observable correlation.

But what is most decimating to the global warming alarmist theory is the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) data, according to Lindzen. The data prove that CO2, which is a much less prevalent and effective “greenhouse gas” than water vapor, is incapable of capturing the amount of heat in our atmosphere as the IPCC claims. The ERBE results, which are factual data from real measurements made by satellite, prove the exact opposite of the IPCC projections based on computer models. In science, when hard data is juxtaposed with computer models, the data win. To see the full study, select the July CO2 report on the Science and Public Policy website.

The results of Lindzen’s report led one reviewer to comment, “All of this data leads to the conclusion that the UN/IPCC models are not only wrong, they are so far off the mark as to be laughable. The satellite and bathythermograph data clearly do not match the IPCC theory, which means that the theory is incorrect.”

Those of us who have questioned the pseudo-science behind the man-made global warming alarmists have known the motives were not about saving the planet. As more and more evidence provides justification for our skepticism, we will find ourselves in the dubious position of missing the honest proponents of controlling and taxing carbon emissions, like Van Jones.

David Ripley: Senate Panel Backs Tax-Funded Abortions

October 1st, 2009 by Halli

Idaho Chooses Life

With all the problems and controversies surrounding health care “reform”, it is rather unbelievable that Senate Democrats on the Finance Committee defeated two pro-Life amendments today, both on 10-13 votes.

The two amendments were offered by Utah’s senator, Orrin Hatch.

The first of his proposals would have ensured that no federal tax dollars would be used to pay for abortions. Our own Mike Crapo joined with Hatch in supporting the amendment. Unfortunately, the measure garnered only one Democrat vote (Sen. Conrad), with “Republican” Olympia Snowe supporting a broad expansion of taxpayer-subsidized abortions.

History demonstrates that “free” abortions increase demand; so we are talking not just about tax dollars here, or the conscience rights of American pro-Lifers who understand such use of their money to be a moral outrage. The heart of the matter is that this dark vote, if sustained by the Congress and President, will directly translate into a death sentence for thousands of preborn children. We’re talking about lives that would probably have otherwise been spared by mothers enticed into abortion by the lure of a “free” solution to their problem.

The other Hatch amendment would have afforded medical care providers with conscience protections – another item President Obama claimed to support in his national address earlier this month. Despite such rhetoric, the protections were rejected on the same 10-13 vote.

These votes do not bode well for the future of this nation, and mark yet another assault in the unrelenting war against preborn children being waged by the current national regime.
